To All RELAX Head and Assistant Coaches -
First and foremost, thank you for volunteering your time once again. The success of RELAX is all about the coaching. If the kids don’t have fun, they stop playing.  It’s as simple as that. The challenge for us as coaches is to make learning and competition fun.  Doesn’t sound too hard, but throw in different skill levels, different physical and mental aptitudes, field shortages, weather, parents, oh- and that little ol’ thing called family and work, and it ends up being a significant dedication and commitment.  So not just thank you, but THANK YOU.
This is lengthy, but here are things you need to know as we head into the season:
Boys’ Coaches: You’ll be hearing from Jay about your upcoming preseason coaches’ meeting.
Girls’ Coaches: Your preseason coaches’ meeting is Tuesday, January 28th at 6:30 PM at Lee’s house. Please let Lee know if you are unable to make it.
CONNY coaches’ requirements
Since all of us coached last season, everyone must complete the following before your first game:
1) The CONNY rules test
2) The CEP1 online or in-person course OR the PCA on line or in-person course
A good way to get the rules test done is to bring your laptop to your pre-season coaches’ meeting and do it all together.  That way you can discuss questions as they come up and everyone passes.  At this time, the 2014 CONNY rules have not been distributed, but we anticipate they will be soon.
We will be hosting a PCA on Wednesday, Feb 19th at 7:45PM at the Redding Community Center.
Please register via the REBGC website: www.regbc.org
If you can’t make it, you can do the PCA on-line course but it costs $30: www.positivecoach.org/our-work/online-courses
The CEP1 online course is free: http://www.uslacrosse.org/participants/coaches/coaching-education-program/online-courses.aspx
CEP1 in-person courses are listed on the USL website: http://www.uslacrosse.org/participants/coaches/coaching-education-program/instructional-clinics/level-1-clinics.aspx

(What’s the difference between the online course and the in-person course? For those of you who want to become a “USL Certified” coach, you need to complete the in-person clinics, not just the online ones. You can read all about USL Certification levels and requirements on the USL website.
CONNY does not require USL Certification but it is encouraged.)

CPR Certification and First Aid Training (both recommended but not mandatory):
CPR/AED Class Dates:  Thurs., Feb. 6th from 6-9 PM OR Sat. Feb. 8th from 9 AM – 12 PM
First Aid Class Dates: Wed., Feb. 12th from 6-8 PM OR Sat., Feb 22nd from 9-11 AM
Register on the REBGC website: www.rebgc.org
RELAX DAY – Sat., Jan. 25th from 10 AM – 2 PM at Barlow
All teams needs to be represented.  Please make sure someone from your coaching staff is there.
Practice start times on the weekdays will be 5:30 or 6:00 PM.  If you need a specific start time, please let us know ASAP as practice schedules will be loaded on the RELAX website soon.

The information from CONNY about uploading your home games to their website has not been released yet.  It most likely won’t be until after the Feb. 11th boys’ scheduling scramble.

Field assignments for Redding and Easton will be done after we get confirmation from both Redding and Easton Park and Rec.  That, too, will be around the 2nd week in February.

Available indoor time in March is extremely limited.  We will keep you posted as soon as we have dates, locations, and times.
